Andrew’s career was inspired by his father, a coachbuilder and skilled woodworker who helped to build ash-framed vehicles. Andrew was also drawn to metalwork and woodwork at school, and that encouraged him to study Art & Design at Hereford College of Art and furniture making at Hereford College of Technology.
During the early years of Andrew’s career, he joined a London furniture design company before taking up a role with with a Herefordshire kitchen manufacturer. This gave him experience of fitting kitchens, meaning he can now design, build and install them himself.
Andrew’s combined skills mean that, with Harts Woodworking, he can offer clients a full service from the drawing board to creation and installation – a real asset if you prefer not to commission different experts at each stage.

If you would like painted furniture, Andrew can create it in tulipwood – which is ideal for the purpose because it has little resin and few knots.

A guide to how we create your furniture
The Design Process
When you come to Harts Woodworking for bespoke furniture design, our main priority is to create kitchens and furniture that are exactly tailored to your needs.
To do this, Andrew Hart will make sure he has a full understanding of your requirements. He will ask whether you have existing ideas about the style and function of your proposed room, so you may find it helpful to browse through some magazines about home interiors beforehand.
Once Andrew has a clear understanding of what you want to achieve, he will prepare a detailed design drawing and submit it to you with a quote. This first drawing is just the beginning – the designs will evolve and change as he explores with you ways of creating your dream kitchen or fitted furniture.
Andrew has many years’ experience in designing and installing bespoke fitted kitchens, bedrooms and associated furniture, so he can guide you every step of the way – helping you to choose the right timber and materials, not to mention finishing touches such as paint colours and ironmongery.
When you’re happy with the design and cost of your new furniture, you pay Harts Woodworking a 50% commissioning deposit and we give you a date for manufacture and installation. You only pay the outstanding balance when your furniture has been installed.
Manufacturing your furniture
We use only the very finest materials to create your furniture, and you are welcome to make an appointment to see us manufacturing it in our workshop.
You will understand the exceptional quality of our work when you see that:
- We use traditional techniques, including mortice and tenon joints, when constructing doors and frames
- Our hardwood drawer boxes are made using dovetail joints, and they are mounted on soft-close, full extension German runners
- Our doors are hung on solid brass or stainless steel butt hinges – a sign of true excellence and attention to detail
- You can choose between hardwood, colour-coordinated melamine or real wood veneer carcasses
- We use the finest German hardware for all our furniture
- We will hand paint furniture in your chosen colour – and offer a range of specialist paint finishes.
Installation
If you commission hand-made furniture, it deserves to be fitted with the same care that went into creating it.
Harts Woodworking will install your kitchen, bedroom or office furniture perfectly. Andrew Hart’s aim is to make sure that the process is efficient and causes you the least possible disruption.
We will ensure that any necessary plumbing, wiring, tiling or building work is undertaken by skilled and trusted tradesmen under our supervision.
